Hollywood star Johnny Depp lost the defamation case against the Sun newspaper due to an article that described him as a “wife beater.”
Depp, 57, filed a lawsuit against the newspaper after he claimed he had beaten his ex-wife Amber Heard, which he denies.
The judge said the Sun newspaper had proven the article to be “substantially true.”
It concluded that 12 out of 14 incidents of alleged domestic violence occurred.
Deeb’s attorney described the ruling as “unreasonable and unreasonable” and said his client intends to appeal the verdict.
A spokeswoman for the newspaper said she had defended victims of domestic violence for decades and thanked Hurd for “his courage in bringing the evidence to court.”
The court sessions were held over 16 days in July in London.
“For those who attended the London High Court, this decision and ruling is not surprising,” Heard’s US attorney said in a statement.
“We will present more detailed tests in the United States very soon,” he added.
Deep Heard is suing in the United States in a separate case over an opinion piece he wrote in The Washington Post.
In his ruling on Monday, the judge said: “I discovered that the vast majority of the alleged assaults on Ms. Heard by Mr. Deeb have been substantiated.”
Heard’s allegations of violence occurred between 2013 and 2016, when the couple separated.
In an incident in Australia in 2015, Depp was alleged to have abused Heard, both physically and verbally, while drinking heavily and using drugs. Deep Heard was charged with cutting his finger, but the judge said he could not find Heard responsible.
The judge said: “Based on the evidence, I find that she was the victim of continuous and multiple attacks by Mr. Deeb in Australia.”
“There is evidence of his extreme anger, which is that he confessed to writing on the walls with his injured finger and then, when that was not enough, he stuck his seriously injured finger in the paint and continued to write letters and other things,” the judge said.
“I accept your evidence of the nature of the attacks he committed against her. It must have been terrifying. It seems to me that Depp made her fear her life.”
It is not a “hunt for wealth”
The judge ruled that 12 out of 14 incidents of alleged domestic violence occurred.
The judge ruled out two incidents in December 2014 and November 2015, considering that the first was not a physical assault, while the second was ruled out due to lack of sufficient evidence.
The judge said: “The recurring theme Depp defended himself with is that Heard invented a great trick to get his money and was looking for profit and wealth through it.”
The judge rejected Depp’s allegations, saying, “I do not accept this description of Ms. Heard.”
Speaking out of court on the last day of the trial in July, Heard said the case was “incredibly painful” and that he just wanted to “get on with his life.”
“This decision is beyond logic and puzzling,” said Jenny Avia of Shillings, the law firm that represented Depp.
“Even more disturbing is the judge’s reliance on Amber Heard’s testimony, the corresponding disregard for the huge amount of counter-evidence from police officers, doctors, her former assistant, and other witnesses, and a wealth of documentary evidence that they undermined by I complete the accusations, point by point. “
“The ruling is so flawed that it would be absurd for Mr. Deeb not to appeal this decision,” he added.
“The Sun has supported and defended victims of domestic violence for more than 20 years,” said a spokesman for The Sun.
“Victims of domestic violence should never be silenced. We thank the judge for her meticulous thinking, and we thank Amber Heard for her courage in presenting evidence in court,” he added.
Women’s Aid said that all people who experience domestic violence “deserve to be heard and believed.”
“This also applies to survivors who do not fit the image of the ‘ideal’ victim, regardless of the prominent position of the perpetrator. There is no excuse for domestic violence.”
