The Egyptian club Al-Ahly contacted Italian coach Luciano Spalletti to lead the team during the next stage, in the event of the departure of current Swiss coach René Fyler.

The Italian site “inews24” confirmed that Al-Ahly had requested the services of Spalletti, who was one of the most prominent candidates to lead it also before hiring Fyler, at the end of 2019.

Valeria Cardillo, a journalist for the Italian radio “Punto Novo”, told “Yallakora” that the advanced negotiations had brought together representatives of Al-Ahly and the Italian coach in recent days.

Cardillo added: “There is (great) chemistry between the two sides, and Spalletti wants to embark on a new adventure of this kind in his coaching career, but there are no advanced steps yet.”

Amir Tawfiq, director of Al-Ahly’s Marketing and Recruitment Department, confirmed in televised statements in October last year that Al-Ahly contacted Spalletti to succeed his former coach Martin Lasarte, but the negotiations were unsuccessful.
