A great controversy sparked the hair of Queen T’s mummy, one of the 22 royal mummies, which is now being transferred from the Egyptian Museum to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, via social media.
Queen T’s hair has attracted attention due to its density and preservation of its color for thousands of years. Zahi Hawass, the archaeologist and tourism scientist, reveals the secret of that.
Hawass told the MBC Egypt story program that Queen T, who had the best poetry from the ancient pharaonic civilization, was always taking care of her hair.
Hawass added: “After his death, they put henna mixtures and embalming techniques to preserve his hair, in preparation for resurrection and immortality after death.”
Hawass concluded: “Queen Tee used old henna for her hair and some ancient herbal ingredients which they later used in the mummification work.”
