The Civil Protection Forces finally took control of the great fire that broke out, Monday night, in the “warehouse of Rome” of the Customs Authority in the port of Alexandria.
A team from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, under the supervision of Counselor Mohamed Lashin, the first public attorney for the Public Prosecutor’s Office of West Alexandria College, arrived at the port to inspect the scene of the fire. Whereas, Counselor Omar Selim, Attorney General, ordered the formation of a technical and engineering committee to inspect the building as soon as the fire goes out, request a civil protection report, carry out investigations of the incident investigations and expedite the report of forensic experts.
“Masrawy” reviews the details of the fire, which lasted approximately 6 and a half hours:
The fire occurred in a warehouse of the Customs Administration called “Roma Store”, consisting of a ground floor and 4 floors, in an area of 1,300 square meters, in the second area of the port of Alexandria.
The fire started from the second floor at exactly four o’clock in the afternoon, and lasted until about ten and a half hours, which means that it lasted about six and a half hours.
The store contains general and other goods discarded for decades, as well as cosmetics, etc., and material losses are being counted.
16 fire trucks were paid to control the fire in coordination with the Navy.
According to the Alexandria Port Authority, there were no injuries or equipment losses from the fire.
The fire caused parts of the store’s third and fourth floors to collapse.
The Alexandria Port Authority issued the decision to evacuate the area adjacent to the warehouse, due to the deterioration of the building, to save lives.
Alexandria Port denied any explosion caused by the fire.
A team from the national and public security sectors and the Criminal Investigation Department was formed, in partnership with the Public Ministry. Know the causes of the fire and make sure there are no criminal suspicions.
The Public Ministry decided to delegate forensic evidence to inspect the fire, request an investigation of the investigations and question the store employees.
