Indonesian investigators said the unfortunate Boeing plane, with 62 people on board, was destroyed by the impact of the water, which may rule out its mid-air accident, according to Bloomberg News on Sunday.
The head of the National Transportation Safety Commission, Soirganto Tejugono, conveyed his conclusion via text message, without giving further details.
The accident was confirmed, about 20 hours after his loss, after his departure from the capital, Jakarta, and Indonesian President Joko Widodo called for maximum efforts to search for the victims.
The Indonesian army commander claimed that search teams located the two black boxes of the Indonesian airliner, which crashed in the Java Sea.
“We are able to monitor two signals from the black boxes and have been able to pinpoint the location, and we hope to retrieve them quickly,” added Army Air Marshall Commander Hadi Tejganto.
The two black boxes contain the aircraft data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder.
