Indonesian singer and actress Gisela Anastasia faces a prison sentence after a sex video stolen from her phone was spread and posted online.

Anastasia, 30, appeared in a 19-second video that went viral last November, and is now accused of violating Indonesian anti-pornography laws.

According to “The Sun” newspaper, the clip was filmed in a hotel room in the Indonesian province of North Sumatra in 2017.

Two days after it was uploaded to the internet, a lawyer informed police in the capital Jakarta about the clip and said: “It must be investigated to stop the distribution of pornography on social media that has been viewed by millions of Indonesians.” .

Anastasia and a man known as Michael Yukinobu Devritis admitted that they were the couple seen in the clip, but said the video was taken from a cell phone that Anastasia had lost and someone else uploaded it to the internet.

Local police said two men were charged in connection with the accident, and that Anastasia and Devretis are also under investigation.

Police questioned Anastasia twice, without detaining her or Devretis, and a Jakarta police spokesman said: “When asked why it was registered, he said it was for personal documentation and that he would never sell it.”

In 2010, famous singer-songwriter Nazril Erham, better known as Ariel, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for appearing in two different sex tapes that were leaked online after her home was raided and her laptop stolen.

No evidence was presented at trial to indicate that Irham posted the videos himself, but the judge reportedly found him guilty of negligence in failing to prevent their distribution.

Ariel served two years of his prison sentence before being released for good behavior.

Human rights lawyers and women’s rights activists in Indonesia have vehemently opposed the laws, arguing that they frequently criminalize the people the state should protect.
