President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received Aqila Saleh, spokesman for the Libyan Parliament, and Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, commander of the Libyan National Army, in the presence of Major General Abbas Kamel, chief of general intelligence.
Ambassador Bassam Rady, spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, said that the meeting was held in the context of Egypt’s continued efforts to achieve the security and stability of the sister Libyan state and support its people in preserving the security and capabilities of your country against terrorist organizations and armed militias, and undermining foreign interference.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed the two Libyan leaders, affirming Egypt’s firm position in supporting a political solution to the Libyan crisis, away from foreign interference, and welcoming any positive step that leads to calm, peace, construction and development.
During the meeting, Libyan officials briefed the President on all recent events in Libya, relevant international interactions, and efforts by all parties to implement a ceasefire and stabilize the situation, on the one hand. He also learned of Libya’s efforts to advance the peace process under the auspices of the United Nations, on the other hand.
The Spokesman added that the President welcomed the results of all the international and regional meetings that took place during the last period, which confirmed the establishment of peace and the activation of the avenues for a comprehensive political solution.
Al-Sisi praised the efforts and moves of the adviser, Agila Saleh. To support the political path and unify the executive and legislative institutions in Libya, he also valued the position of the military establishment, headed by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, in the fight against terrorism and its commitment to a ceasefire, urging all parties to participate positively in the ways to resolve the Libyan crisis emanating from the Berlin Summit under the auspices of the United Nations (political, economic, and military and security) and the “Cairo Declaration” that will lead to the presidential and parliamentary elections that will allow the Libyan people to achieve stability, prosperity and development.
President Al-Sisi welcomed the tangible positive engagement of all parties, whether in eastern or western Libya, with the mechanisms to resolve the crisis, and called on all Libyan parties to unify their positions to exit from the current crisis and defend the interest of the nation above all considerations.
The Spokesperson stated that Libyan officials expressed their honor to meet with the President, in appreciation of Egypt’s critical and extremely important role in the leadership of the President in stabilizing the foundations of peace and achieving stability in Libya, preserving the capabilities of the Libyan people and work to activate their will, as well as Egypt’s support for the efforts of Libyan institutions to combat Terrorism and extremist groups and relaunch the political process with the participation of regional and international powers interested in the Libyan issue.
