The forward of France and Barcelona Antoine Griezmann announced today, Thursday, the end of his commercial relationship with the Chinese company Huawei, in protest at the treatment it gives to Uighur Muslims.
“I announce the end of the association that unites me with this company immediately,” wrote Griezmann, winner of the 2018 World Cup with France, in a statement posted on his “Instagram” application page.
This came after the Chinese smartphone company revealed an application that reveals the faces of Uighur Muslims and denounces them to the authorities in China, knowing that the Uighurs are a Muslim minority in China that suffers constant repression by the country’s authorities.
UN experts and activists say that at least one million Uighurs and members of other Muslim minorities have been held in camps in the vast Xinjiang region of northwest China.
For its part, China describes these camps as vocational training centers to help stop “religious extremism” and teach “new job skills.”
