The Court of Justice of the European Union has lifted the sanctions imposed by the Council of the European Union on the assets of the late Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his family, including the decision to freeze family funds.
The British newspaper “The Times” reported that the family of the late Egyptian president may reap windfall profits, following the decision of the European Court.
The European Justice said that the Council of the European Union could not confirm that the sanctions imposed on Mubarak and his family were correct.
He explained that the value of the assets affected by the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Mubarak and his family in 2016 had not been announced, and that he had announced the freezing of their funds.
The “Times” reported that Mubarak and his sons Gamal and Alaa have an estimated fortune of $ 300 million frozen in Swiss banks since 2011.
It is hoped that the family of the late Egyptian president will be able to dispose of these funds in Europe following the court’s decision.
The European Court decision declared that “the sanctions imposed on Mubarak and his family were canceled due to procedural errors in their imposition.”
The decision to freeze the funds included the money of Mubarak, his wife Suzan Thabet, their two children Gamal and Alaa, and their wives, Khadija El-Gamal and Heidi Rasshem.
