Hurricane Sally deprives half a million Americans of electricity

Half a million Americans are without power after the storms and torrential rains that accompanied Hurricane “Sally” off the US Gulf Coast.

Wind speeds decreased after Hurricane Sally made landfall on Wednesday. It was classified as a Category 2 hurricane.

But the storm continued to hit Florida and Alabama. The floods caused great damage.

Pensacola, Florida, was severely affected by the collapse of part of the bridge across the bay.

Fire brigade commander Jenny Cranor told CNN that the storm brought with it the equivalent of “four months of rain in four hours.”

Hurricane “Sally” hit the Alabama Bay shoreline early Wednesday morning, with maximum winds of 169 kilometers per hour.

Floods, storms and heavy rains caused the most damage.

The storm, which moved north from the coast, left nearly 550,000 residents of the affected areas without power Wednesday night, according to local reports.

The National Hurricane Center reported that “catastrophic and life-threatening flooding continues in parts of Florida and southern Alabama.”
