The Council of Ministers Media Center denied the news that some websites and social media pages circulated regarding a decision to disburse all pensions through the “Meeza” smart card only.
The Media Center of the Council of Ministers contacted the Ministry of Social Solidarity, which denied the news, confirming that it is not correct to issue any decision to disburse all pensions through the “merit” smart card only, and that the traditional mechanism of disbursement of pensions of the different exchange houses continues as it is, in addition to Offering 3 electronic systems among which the pensioner has the right to choose, namely the smart card “Meeza”, the bank account of the pensioner, or one of the electronic wallets provided by telecommunications companies, in line with the country’s digital transformation plan.
In the same context, the transition to electronic systems will be gradual for existing customers, according to the desire of customers to switch to the system of their choice, and for new customers or those who request to obtain a replacement card for a credit card. Damaged or lost pension will be replaced by the “Meeza” smart card. Retired citizens spend their fees through it, away from the traditional manual disbursement methods from various outlets.
The banks (Egypt, Al-Ahly, Construction and Housing, Arab African International, Emirates Dubai National, Cairo, Arab Banking Corporation and The United Bank) are the banks that have entered into a contract with the Central Bank of Egypt to issue a card “Meeza”. The advantages of this card are that it is fully insured against hacking and piracy operations, since it has a contactless smart chip that allows transactions simply by touching the ATM with the card, and therefore the possibility of cash withdrawals from all ATMs, in addition to the possibility of electronic purchase and payment, including electronic payment of government fees, as well as Purchase through electronic points of sale.
