British Health Minister Matt Hancock defended the decision to tighten restrictions in some areas of the UK, in light of the discovery of a new strain of the Corona virus.
Hancock told Sky News on Sunday that the tightening of restrictions in London and South East England to the fourth grade (which is the strictest) before Christmas was due to the new breed being out of control and the need to deter her by adopting strict social distancing.
The British minister said it was the duty of the authorities to take urgent action after receiving information about the new strain, according to “Reuters”.
Hancock noted that previous promises to ease restrictions over the Christmas and New Year holidays came before this new challenge emerged and the government was forced to back down.
He noted that it will be very difficult to control the outbreak of the new strain unless the Corona vaccine is widely distributed in the country, highlighting the need for all citizens in areas where strict measures have been imposed to take preventive measures as if they were infected. with the epidemic.
He continued: “It is a deadly matter … this is a deadly disease and we must maintain control over it. This task has become more difficult in light of the emergence of this new strain.”
The British minister also criticized the decision of many citizens to leave London in the face of the announcement of the new restrictions, which caused overcrowding in train stations, calling this “absolutely irresponsible behavior”.
He said that the Corona vaccine distribution process, which was developed by the US company “Pfizer” and “Biontech” in Britain, is continuing well, noting that the proposed plans are to vaccinate some 500,000 Britons before the weekend.
