The World Health Organization has launched an “urgent” investigation into a possible link between the novel coronavirus and Kawasaki syndrome, an idiopathic disease that generally affects children under the age of five.
“We are aware of this newly described syndrome in several countries in Europe and perhaps in a small number of cases in North America,” said Dr. Adam Finn, head of the European Technical Advisory Group for the World Health Organization, in a press conference on Thursday, reported by Sky News Arabia. .

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines Kawasaki syndrome as “an acute febrile illness of unknown cause that affects children under the age of five.”
Clinical signs include “fever, rash, swelling of the hands and feet, white eye irritation and redness, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, irritation, swelling of the mouth, lips, and throat.”
Finn said the WHO was aware that around 20 cases had been reported in London and other parts of Britain, adding that other places were also reporting cases.
He said, “Only about half of these children have tested positive for a crown, so the causal relationship has not been completely clear.”
Finn noted that the relationship between Kawasaki Syndrome and Corona virus in children will become clear in the coming weeks.
