After 49 days of total isolation in the country that ranked third in the world affected by the Corona virus, which in Europe alone has claimed more than a million and a half infections, the Spaniards were released with a sigh of relief , enjoying the rays of the sun.

Enemies and cyclists from all over Spain left their homes early Saturday morning, as adults were allowed to leave for the first time in seven weeks when the general isolation measures imposed to combat the epidemic that claimed the lives of more than 25,000 people in the country.

In Barcelona, the paths near the beach were full of runners and cyclists, while windsurfing went out to enjoy their favorite sport.

In Madrid, cyclists and scooters flock to the vast streets of the city under the supervision of the police to prevent people from gathering in public areas.

It is noteworthy that Spain witnessed one of the worst waves of spread of Covid-19 disease and imposed general isolation in March that prevented the majority of the population from leaving their homes, except in cases of need.

But with the decline in the infection rate and hospitals starting to catch their breath, the government’s focus has shifted to reopening the country and reviving the economy.

At the beginning of last week, children under the age of 14 were allowed to go out for an hour a day for supervised activities.

Back to life

Preparing to restore an earlier lifestyle, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced a four-stage plan on Tuesday to return the country to what he described as the “new normal situation” by the end of June.

To avoid crowds when people start leaving their homes, the government applies a shift system, with various time periods assigned to different age groups.

Scheduled activities such as hairdressers will be allowed to return to work starting Monday, but restaurants and bars will be closed for at least another week.

This comes with the country registering 276 new deaths on Saturday, bringing the number of deaths to 25,100, while confirmed injuries rose to 216582 from 215216 on Friday.
