Books – Ahmed Shaban:

Today Monday, there was a global breakdown in the services of “Google” in a series of services of the American technology giant, including gmail, Google Drive, YouTube and Google Store, in different regions of the world, including Egypt.

Several users complained about the interruption of Google services, which lasted for more than half an hour before the services were operational again.

Dr. Osama Mustafa, an expert in information technology, tells Masrawy that the company’s services are not interrupted in all regions of the world, since it owns the so-called “data warehouse” or big data stores, distributed to more than one country in the world, and adds that each group of countries is powered by one of these stores, and in case of a malfunction in one of them or an update, the services will be temporarily stopped until they are transferred to another, to that the service returns.

Mustafa attributed the causes of the malfunction that occurred today to “a suspicion of a virus, a regular network problem or cyberattack to which the company was exposed, or perhaps a severe failure as a result of the power outage in an area that feeds servers serving more than one country, and ultimately may have been the result of a procedure. ” The company was updating one of its services that were interrupted, such as gmail, YouTube or Google Drive ”, he explains.

Regarding the possibility that the malfunction affects the data and accounts of the users, the technician says that this happens rarely, since it is not easy to delete the data of the users unless what happened was the result of a virus or cyber attack. Based on Google’s settings that allow its users to effectively protect their accounts.

This is not the first time that Google services have been interrupted; Last August, Google announced a malfunction that caused the suspension of the Gmail service, Google Drive services, Google Docs, Google Chat, and the Google Voice service.
