Zamalek club spokesperson Essam Salem revealed the club’s request to postpone Tongith’s Senegalese match in the second round of the group stage of the African Champions League.

The Zamalek mission’s arrival in Senegal was delayed until Sunday night due to flight conditions.

“The information we have is that Mauritania closed its airspace for country-specific reasons,” Salem said on Channel ON.

“After the intervention of the Ministry of Sports and officials, we managed to change the trip from Mali to Mauritania,” he said.

He revealed: “We asked the African Union to postpone the meeting for 24 hours due to the circumstances that caused the flight delay.”

Salem explained, “Sufficient regulation that in case of emergency circumstances, postponements are allowed, whether due to rain or flight conditions.”

Zamalek is scheduled to be invited by Senegalese Tongeth at 6 pm on Tuesday in the second round matches of the group stage of the African Champions League.

“We all hope that the African Union agrees to postpone the meeting, and we are waiting for the response, which may be tomorrow,” Zamalek said.

“We did light training as soon as we arrived in Senegal. The main training was supposed to take place today because tomorrow is match night,” he added.

Regarding the crisis of not traveling, Mohamed Ashraf Rouqa explained: “We were surprised by the matter and an investigation will be carried out when the mission returns from Senegal.”

“There will be punishment for those responsible,” he concluded.

Subsequently, Zamalek published an official statement in which he expressed the request to postpone the Senegalese confrontation in Tuncheth for 24 hours due to the flight conditions.

The team’s mission had been delayed in reaching Senegal due to flight conditions, before the administration intervened and addressed the responsible authorities that ended the crisis. The mission arrived in Senegal this afternoon.

The statement revealed that similar cases have been postponed at the African championships, including the Etoile Sahel and Boufalouz Aswatini match, which was postponed for 24 hours.
