Egypt has chosen to fall into Group G of the 2021 Handball World Cup, which will be held in the land of the pharaohs from January 13 to 31.
The organizing state has the right to choose the group it wants to be in, and Egypt has been chosen to accompany Sweden, the Czech Republic and the representative of South America.
Some asked if the choice was correct. And why wasn’t another group chosen, especially since there are teams from the top ranking that are below the level of Sweden?
Tournament system
From the outset, we explain the lottery system in this edition after the number of participants rose to 32 countries for the first time in the history of the World Cup.
The 32 teams are divided into 8 groups, with 4 teams in a group, and the top 3 teams qualify for the main round.
After that, the 24 qualified teams are divided into 4 groups, with 6 teams in a group, and the first and second teams qualify for the quarterfinals directly with a direct elimination system.
The classification for the main role is by qualification points, which means that if Egypt occupies one of the first three places, the result of the fourth classified team will be canceled and the team qualifies with its points with the other two teams, and plays in the main role with the three classified teams from the other group and all are classified with their points except to face the team that left the competitions. Choose Egypt
The Egypt pick, led by Spanish coach Roberto García Barondo, fell into Group G, and this does not refer only to that group, but also to the eighth.
The seventh and eighth group qualifiers meet in the fourth group of the main round, and then qualify for first and second place for the quarterfinals.

The first group includes Germany and the second Spain, Brazil and Poland with the possibility that Hungary, a second qualifier, falls into the other group that Egypt will not choose.
In that way, we would have seen an important and fiery role for the pharaohs, including Spain, Germany, and most likely Brazil, Poland, or Hungary.
Regarding the third and fourth groups, we find the first classified teams, Croatia and Denmark.
Denmark is the champion of the last edition of the World Championship and the Olympic Games, while Croatia, despite its failure in the last World Cup, its team won silver in the European Championship this year.
So it becomes clear that Egypt’s position will also be difficult in the second (main) round, if it falls into one of the third or fourth groups.
Now comes the role of the fifth and sixth groups, and the closest is the ranking of the European quartet, Norway, France, Portugal and Iceland for the main role, even with the decline in the performance of French roosters in the recent period, but it remains a prominent name in the gaming world and the most crowned World Cup and has many experienced players.
The Norway team also offers a distinguished performance during the recent period, as well as taking on the speeds of Portugal and Iceland, making it difficult for the pharaohs to position themselves in the quarter-final dream.
Therefore, choosing one from the seventh or eighth group becomes the best option for the pharaohs after the preliminary round.
Why the perfect choice
Egypt was chosen by Group G, which includes Sweden and the Czech Republic, and the team that qualified for the South American qualifiers.
Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay qualified from South America and therefore the fourth place will be weaker than them, and Chile will likely be the favorite of the teams scheduled to compete in the qualifiers, increasing Egypt’s chances.
As for the Czechs, they are a team with no history in the world of handball and they have never achieved any achievement and have only competed in the World Cup 6 previous times, not counting the last two versions of the foundation.
Lastly, Sweden is Egypt’s first competitor at the top of the group and despite that, the two teams have become used to the presence of the two teams in a group in recent years.
And this happened at the 2016 Olympics and Egypt won 26-25 and is also repeated for the fourth time in a row in the world championship, all three matches ended in a draw once and Sweden won twice in close matches.
As for the eighth group, it includes Slovenia, South Korea and Russia, and the Belarusian team is in the second group.
At a glance, the Russian team is no longer terrified, but is suffering in recent times, which is why it did not qualify for the World Cup in the first place and was chosen with the invitation card of the International Federation, while the national team South Korea has no history at the handball level and a preference for the pharaohs.
As for the Belarusian team, which did not qualify for the last edition of the World Cup, it is always out of the main round of the European Championship, and finally the Slovenian team, whose performance is uneven, after winning the bronze at the 2017 World Cup, failed to qualify for the last edition and then achieved fourth place at the last Euro this year.
And when analyzing the strength of the teams based on the results and the level, the pharaohs have a better chance in the last two groups because the competition is limited to qualifying for the quarterfinals between Egypt, Sweden and Slovenia.
But certainly handball and sports in general do not recognize the past results or the history of the team, but only what happens on the field.
