Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger advised Manchester United on how to deal with the situation with Paul Pogba, who was about to leave the team, according to his agent.
Al-Wakeel’s comments were greeted with discontent by the Red Devils squad, which were seeking the best performance from their 27-year-old midfielder Pogba.
“I think you have to explain to the player that regardless of his future plans, he has to give everything he has to his current team,” Wenger said in his interview with ESPN.
And he continued: “This is the best preparation for the future, playing well for the moment. When I saw Pogba enter as a substitute in the Leipzig game, I regretted that he was not a starter, because he made the difference as soon as he entered.”
Pogba participated as a substitute in the Leipzig match, which Manchester United lost 3-2 to say goodbye to the group stage of the Champions League.
Pogba is spending his fifth season with United, the club he left in 2012 to join Juventus.
Reports say the latter wants to restore Pogba, while another indicated that the French player is looking to move to Real Madrid.
Pogba appeared in 179 games for United, scoring 34 goals and sending in 35 assists.
