German Dietrich Weitza, former coach of Al-Ahly and the Egyptian national team, died at the age of 86.

The German daily “Kicker” reported the death of the Al-Ahly manager during the 1988-1989 season.

Faizza had led Al-Ahly to crown the double league, the Egyptian Cup and the Afro-Asian Club Cup.

And he moved to coach Egypt’s first Olympic teams after the departure of Mahmoud El-Gohary after the 1990 World Cup.

But the German coach quickly left the training of the pharaohs after the poor performance at the African Games, hosted by Egypt.

The last stop for the German coach was with the Liechtenstein team in 1996.

Weissa was also a successful coach in the German Bundesliga, and his greatest success was twice winning the Cup with Eintracht Frankfurt in 1974 and 1975, leading teams Kaiserslautern and Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Eintracht also qualified under his leadership in 1976 to the semi-finals of the Recopa de Europa, and was barely deposited in the tournament at the hands of West Ham United.

He previously led the German youth national team from 1978 to 1983, and in 1981 he won the European Championship and the World Youth Cup.

Difficult conditions

Weitza decided to leave Al-Ahly and leave the team to Mahmoud Al-Sayes, who led him to the crowning of the revitalization championship.

In 2009, the deceased revealed that Al-Ahly had continued in contact with him, as he said that the leaders of the Red Club asked him to nominate a German coach to lead the team that would succeed Manuel José, indicating that he had advanced the named after former star Lothar Matthews, as reported at the time by “Modern Sport 2”.
