Former Zamalek star Walid Salah Abdel Latif believes that the team’s position is difficult in the African Champions League, because the fate of the whites is in the hands of Esperance of Tunisia.

Abdel Latif, who won the 2002 CAF Champions League with Zamalek, said: “There is no strong bench, there are no penalties or discipline, and everyone thought I was number one or the best.”

“No one can be held responsible. In the beginning, there was Jaime Pacheco, who allowed Mustafa Mohamed, Mustafa Fathi and Omar Al-Saeed to go without alternatives. This is not true in a great club like Zamalek,” he added.

He stressed: “Then there is Patrice Carteron. He left at a difficult time and his return again is not correct. Against Esperance there were no technical characteristics, and the changes were incorrect.”

He explained: “It is assumed that Carteron will be responsible for his statements and his talk about the physical side of the team, and that the league (deception) and his agent’s talk that he is following Zamalek while he is in Saudi Arabia.”

“There is a responsibility in management, because there is no soccer coach in charge,” he added.

He concluded: “Zamalek’s rise is difficult because his fate is in Esperance’s hands.”

Esperance scored their first ever victory over Zamalek in Cairo after beating them with an unanswered goal on Tuesday night.

With this result, Esperance reached ten points, leading the group and securing the official classification for the quarterfinals.

MC Argel is second, with eight points, after beating Senegalese Tounjeth 1-0.

Zamalek comes third with two points, followed by Tongith with one point in fourth place.
