Mohamed Magrouf, spokesman for the Moroccan Football Association, revealed the reason for the announcement of the date of the Casablanca Derby between Raja and Wydad Casablanca in the Moroccan League, one day before the semi-final date of the Champions League of the CAF.

“The announced schedule for the Moroccan league titles depends on the final dates of the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League,” Maqrouf told Ontime Sports.

“Playing the matches on the announced date is subject to the decision of the CAF, whether to postpone or hold the semifinals of the Champions League on time,” he explained.

A spokesman for the Moroccan Federation continued: “We were surprised, after announcing the calendar of the Moroccan League champions, to link some journalists that the Moroccan Federation has control of the CAF.”

And he concluded: “Didn’t Zamalek win the Confederacy last season at the expense of Berkane’s Moroccan rebirth, and Wydad lost the Champions League with a stark injustice?”

The Moroccan Football Federation announced on September 24 the date of the match between Raja and Wydad in the Moroccan League.

This comes despite the earlier announcement by the African Football Confederation (CAF), which will be decided on September 25 for the semi-finals of the Champions League, which opened space for discussion on the possibility of postponing the semi-finals of the African Champions League.

Al-Ahly will meet Wydad in the semi-finals of the African Champions League, while Zamalek will meet Raja in the other semi-final.
