Tommy Docherty, former Scottish player and coach of several English clubs, passed away today, Thursday, at the age of 92.

The Docherty family released a short statement that read:

“Tommy passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was a loving husband and father, and he will be greatly missed.”

We ask that our privacy be respected at this time. “

He played for Celtic, Preston North End, Arsenal and Chelsea, played 25 games for Scotland and participated in the 1954 and 1958 World Cups.

In training, Docherty has a long career, capturing Chelsea in the League Cup in 1965.

He also coached Aston Villa, Porto, Scotland, Derby County, Queens Park Rangers, and various other clubs.

But his most famous experience was with Manchester United between 1972 and 1977, despite the Red Devils’ relegation under his leadership, but he brought them back to the Premier League after one season.

Docherty’s memory remains etched in the minds of Manchester United fans, for leading the team to the 1977 FA Cup crown.

The title was historic because Manchester United had only won the FA Cup 3 times before.

It was also achieved at the expense of Liverpool’s golden generation, led by Bob Paisley, who was crowned that season in the League and in the Champions League, to deprive him of a historic triple.
