The draw for the first round of the Roland Garros tournament resulted in a fierce showdown for Egyptian Mayar Sharif.
Mayar Sharif, ranked 171, is the first Egyptian player (male or female) to achieve the leading role in the prestigious Roland Garros tennis tournament, one of the Grand Slam championships.
In the first round of the tournament, Mayar faced Czech Karolina Pliskova, second seeded, and fourth in the world.
The first round matches will take place next Sunday and the tournament matches will be broadcast on beIN Sports 9.
In the previous roles, Mayar Sharif defeated Colombian María Camilla Osorio Serrano, American Katie McNally and Italian Giulia Gatto Montichoni.
Match winner Mayar Sharif and Pleskova will play Latvian match winner Jelena Ostapenko and American Madison Pringle.
Pliskova, 28, was ranked first in the tennis world in July 2017.
Pliskova reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros in 2017 and played the final of the US Open tennis tournament in 2016.
The first round draw also resulted in a showdown between Belarusian Victoria Azarenka and Montenegrin Danka Kovinich.
American veteran Venus Williams plays Slovakian Anna Karolina Schmidlova.
Her younger sister, Serena Williams, plays against compatriot Christy Ahn.
Meanwhile, Tunisian Anas Jaber plays against Kazakh Zarina Dias.
And the Spanish Garpini Muguruza faced the Slovenian Tamara Zidancic.
Czech Petra Kvitova faces Frenchman Ossian Dudin.
