Moussa Wagi, a Pauk Salonica player on loan from Barcelona, is at risk of retiring from football due to injury.
Wagi injured his knee during PAOK’s loss to Aris Thessaloniki last Sunday in the Greek League.
He faced the ball away from his team’s goal to avoid the second goal at the net, but unfortunately for him, his knee hit the left post with great force.
The Catalan newspaper “Sport” reported that Wagi would remain out of action for the remainder of the season, The worst could happen!
The newspaper reported that Wagi was threatened with the end of his career, as he suffered a right knee fracture and the lateral, posterior and anterior cruciate ligament was severed.
“The injury is rare. I have not seen anything like it in my medical career,” said Giannis Rales, MD, PAOK physician.
He continued: “The shape of the knee was very bad, the knee was completely out of place. We immediately contacted Barcelona and sent them the test results to decide together what we will do.”
He completed: “Wagi will undergo two surgeries and will be absent for at least a year. We do not know what will happen after the operation.”
Wagi (22 years old) has played for PAOK since the beginning of the season and has participated with them in 12 games, scoring one goal.
The Senegalese right-back participated with his country’s team in the 2018 World Cup, and was on the list that reached the final of the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Wagy has been with Barcelona since the summer of 2018 before being promoted to the first team last season.
