England manager Gareth Southgate responded to Tottenham manager José Mourinho after the latter asked national team coaches to take into account the clubs’ busy schedules when deciding to include players in international matches.
“Mourinho has to take care of Harry Kane in April and May for us, because there are 55 million people who are counting on that,” Southgate told a news conference.
And the fourth World Cup 2018 continued, “José did not pressure me before not to select a player. I have always accepted that his players will participate in international matches.”
Southgate added Tottenham’s Kane, Eric Dyer and Harry Winks to England’s squad, facing Belgium, Denmark and Wales in mid-October.
Southgate hopes his players, especially captain and scorer Kane, will be ready before the European Championship next summer.
International players play many games in the current season, which started late due to the Corona pandemic.
Tottenham participates in 3 local tournaments other than the European League, and some of its players are in international clashes with teams from their country, such as the Dutch Steve Bergwin and the French Hugo Lloris.
