First session of Ramadan Subhi with Pyramids – photos from the official club account
Pyramids player Ramadan Sobhi spoke about the reasons that led him to leave his Al-Ahly club and move to his current team for the first time.
Ramadan Sobhi revealed in his speech that he wanted to stay in Al-Ahly if some things didn’t happen, “it is not right to talk to the children of the club”, as he described it.
All of the following were given by Ramadan Subhi in his interview with “MBC Egypt”.
I follow the pain of the Al-Ahly fans when I left the team. I started in Al-Ahly and then traveled to England, and that was my wish and I hoped to continue there. I had not played for Huddersfield recently due to injury, and when I returned, the coach had decided on his team. I would have liked to get into the Egyptian squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. I was thinking of playing anywhere in Europe. At that point Al-Ahly lost to Esperance in the final of the CAF Champions League and I was collapsing. At that time, I felt like I wanted to go back to my family, I spoke with Hussam Ghaly and Muhammad Fadl and told them that I wanted to go back to Al-Ahly.
It was I who took the initiative to return, after which Ghali left and preferred Al-Ahly. I finished the negotiations with Amir Tawfiq and spoke with Captain Mahmoud Al-Khatib and returned to Al-Ahly. They paid a large sum and I also received a rather large sum from Al-Ahly. In the first 6 months I have not presented my best levels. Then the loan was over and I did not join the senior team, and I had the Under-23 Championship ahead of me. At that moment, I had the indirect feeling that the people within the club did not want me to be as strong as 6 months ago.
I was the one who applied to Al-Ahly during that period, and I continued for a year, and we got the U23 African Cup of Nations, then I got injured and the Crown came. Then we sat down with al-Khatib in the presence of Amir Tawfiq and Nader Shawqi, my agent at the time, and he asked me about my future and I told him that I would rather go professional again. I understood that I had the sole right to continue with Al-Ahly beyond the end of the season, but I knew it had to be with the approval of all 3 parties, me, Al-Ahly and Huddersfield. Huddersfield turned down Al-Ahly’s request to stay until the end of November and they wanted him to come back to sell me in January.
Here, Al-Ahly should have bought me, and I didn’t feel as strong as Al-Ahly wanted me to stay. I wanted to go professional and I used to ask Nader Shawky about the offers and he would tell me that there are no offers even though I am the best player in the African Championship. I couldn’t play Al-Ahly due to the absence of Huddersfield’s approval. Then I met Nader Shawky on the North Shore and he told me that there are no offers, but that the option to stay for my family is there. A video meeting brought me together with Nader Shawky, whom I respect very much, and Amir Tawfiq, and Tawfiq told me that he was asking me to sign the paper they want to send to Huddersfield to continue with Al-Ahly.
Here I told Amir Tawfiq, I will ask other agents to bring me offers, which has not happened before out of respect for Nader Shawqi, and I spoke with my friend Ali Saqr, and he used to tell Amir Tawfiq everything. Ali Saqr told me that he would bring me an offer from the Gulf.
He used to tell Amir Tawfiq about some negotiating matters to convey to al-Khatib, and he used to find these words leaking into the media. The speech was issued to the public that I am in advanced negotiations with Al-Ahly, although my goal is external professionalism. I made it clear to my family that I will travel abroad and if I do not receive an outside offer, I will continue with Al-Ahly.
I asked him why he is communicating to the media that I am in advanced negotiations with Al-Ahly. For a week, the news was published and I felt sad because everyone thinks of their own interest and they do not think of the interest of the club or the interest of Ramadan Sobhi.
On Friday, two days before my reply to Al-Ahly, Ali Saqr interfered with journalist Hani Hathout and said that he would bring me a show. Pyramids officials saw this intervention and understood through it that I am available and contacted Ali Saqr.
Ali Saqr told me that the pyramid officials spoke to him and I said, ‘I have news from them.’
The first person to know that Pyramids was contacting me was Amir Tawfiq, and no one in my family knew. He asked me (will you go?). I told him I would think about it.
The lack of offers for me was a question mark, the leak of the negotiations to the media was a question mark, everyone was thinking of their personal interest and not the interest of Ramadan or Al-Ahly. Some wanted to look good.
After that, I sat down with Sherif Ikrami, Nader Shawqi, Ali Saqr, and Suleiman, my sister’s husband, who I trust a lot, and each had their thoughts on the idea of joining the Pyramids without specifics. I told them that I prayed for Istikhara and that I would go to the pyramids.
The first thing I did after that was call Al-Khatib, he did not answer me, then I called Amir Tawfiq and told him that 80% of me would go to the pyramids. I told him to inform al-Khatib about two things, the first is that I have not yet signed up for Pyramids and have not received any money, and the second is that I have not been negotiating with them for a while, as they say.
What if Al-Ahly’s situation were a number greater than the pyramids? And I’m sitting with al-Khatib, he told me that he knows that I get 5 times what I get from my family in England, it is not related to the matter for me.
Money is important, but what bothered me the most was that some were not clear to me and that some were thinking about their personal interest at my expense.
I didn’t know that the day my decision to join the Pyramids was announced was the opening of the Al-Ahly Stadium, people got sadder for me, but I really didn’t know.
Al-Ahly wanted me to just continue through the league and Africa, when it was made certain that they had to buy me from Huddersfield things changed a bit. To be honest, they eventually negotiated with Huddersfield to buy me hard.
I am sure that the audience is the only element of the system that does not benefit from the matter. If it wasn’t for the crowd, I wouldn’t be who I am. The fans of Al-Ahly and the club are the ones who made Ramadan Subhi.
Belonging will remain in my heart, but there are things that happened that I did not like, the general atmosphere with me was not the right one to spend with one of the sons of the Al-Ahly club, and I speak especially of exporting news to make some of them look good people.
100% convinced of the step you took, and I did not think about the idea that I regret leaving Al-Ahly.
Everything is available in Al-Ahly, be it the championship, the fans and the money. What is the problem when there is another club competing for the championship? In Al-Ahly, if I sit for two days, I will get a championship, but in Pyramids, the championship is a huge thing.
He was hoping to participate against Nahdet Berkane, the match was important for Pyramids, their arrival in this role is an achievement, and he hoped they would win the championship. The tournament would have been very different with the club, but sometimes the referees make mistakes, but this is football.
I wrote to the players after the game to tell them they were men.
