Bayern Munich player David Alaba revealed what was happening during negotiations to renew his contract, which may have deteriorated his relationship with the Bavarian club’s leaders.
Bayern tried to renew Alaba’s contract, which expires in 2021, but the player’s belated approval caused the club to withdraw the renewal offer, according to its president, Herbert Heiner.
“After the second or third conversation (about the contract renewal), I got a call and they asked me if I could imagine going on an exchange. It was as if I had been slapped,” the Austrian told Sky Sport Germany.
The 28-year-old defender continued: “I have not seen enough respect and appreciation in the renewal negotiations. This has been for a year, long before the Corona pandemic.”
“I don’t think about it (leaving the club). I read that on the news and I didn’t think about it. We’ll see what happens in the future,” Alaba concluded.
Reports said Juventus and Liverpool were the most interested in signing Alaba.
Alaba can negotiate with any club in January as his contract with Bayern approaches.
Alaba has played for Bayern since 2010, he has played 394 games, scored 31 goals and sent 49 assists.
Alaba won 25 titles with Bayern.
