Derby matches are always characterized by mass clubs, and this is no different in the Al-Mahalla Al-Kubra Derby, one of the oldest Egyptian footballers.
Tomorrow Saturday, the municipality of Mahalla will meet in front of Ghazl El Mahalla in a fiery summit in the Bahri Group of the Egyptian Second League.
To explore one of the fiery seasons of dew among my Western leaders, it is worth going back to the 2014/2015 season.
At that time, 3 clubs from Group Five came up to compete in the promotion cycle, namely: Mansoura, Ghazl El-Mahalla and Al-Mahalla Municipality, with clubs from the sixth group: Farco, Al-Hamam and Abu Qir for fertilizers.
All six teams played in the league system in the promotion round, and after the fourth round, Mahalla Township was first with 10 points, 3 points ahead of Ghazl El Mahalla before one round to go.
The last match was between the two neighbors, and a draw was enough to elevate the municipality of Mahalla to the Premier League, However, Ghazl El-Mahalla emerged victorious 2-1 on an exciting stage and snatched his boarding pass.
Mohamed Fayez, Ghazl El Mahalla’s technical director that season, recalled what happened on FilGoal.com: “I took over as the team’s coach at the time in the second round and went up the promotion cycle behind Mansoura.”
He continues: “In the promotion round, we only scored 4 points in the first 3 rounds, while the municipality scored 9 points with the full score, so I came out in the media and said that Ghazal Mahalla will rise, a statement that surprised everybody”.
He adds: “Then we won against Abu Qir, while Mansoura tied with the municipality, so our balance would be 7 points compared to 10 points for the municipality.”
He reveals: “Before the decisive game, I told the players that the municipality will advance with a goal, but we will come back and win and we will go up to excellent, and this is what really happened.”
He continues: “I ran this game from the stands due to my dismissal.”
He concluded: “In 2008, we beat Mahalla Township in the Premier League, and they fell and haven’t come back up since.”
Hussam Nour, director of the Media Center of the municipality of Mahalla, in turn recalled what happened at that time, in his interview with FilGoal.com: “Our fans went to celebrate the climb at the Petrosport Stadium by the difference of three points with the municipality of Mahalla, and we only need a draw. “
He added: “But the security forces refused to enter the municipality and allowed the crowd to turn.”
He completed: “Mahalla Municipality advanced in the 30th minute, then Ghazl El Mahalla tied at the end of the first half, before they scored a second goal in the second half and raised Al Mumtaz.”
A similar scenario happened in the 2016/2017 season when the municipality of Mahalla led the league by a wide margin over Raja, and then wasted many points, until it came to face Ghazl El Mahalla 4 rounds before the end.
At that time, Ghazl El Mahalla won two goals to one, then the municipality of Mahalla lost in the last round to Raja, and the latter raised Al Mumtaz, although the draw was enough for the municipality to once again achieve the dream of the ascension.
Akram Abdel-Majid, former Al-Mahalla municipality top scorer, tells FilGoal.com: “Mahalla municipality was unlucky when they lost their boarding pass in the last round of the promotion cycle 5 years ago, and they lost it. against Al-Ghazl again in the season of rising hope. “
Currently, the municipality of Mahalla is behind eighth with 25 points, while Ghazl al-Mahalla leads the group of Bahri with 38 points, and any failure can allow Pharco to pounce on the lead, and it has not happened before the municipality overthrew the turn of the fight for promotion.
