Four months ago, FilGoal.com interviewed Pitso Mosimane, former artistic director of Mamelodi Sundowns, to learn more about his character on the series “My Journey in Africa.”
FilGoal.com republishes that dialogue to learn more about the character of the South African coach, after completing his agreement with Al-Ahly to coach the team, unlike Renee Fyler.
The happiest moment of your football career?
Winning the CAF Champions League in 2016 at the expense of Zamalek and then crowning the Super Cup against Mazembe, it is difficult to win two titles against two of the three most crowned clubs in Africa.
The worst moment of your career?
There is never a bad moment in football, I don’t remember it now.
The best match of your coaching career and the worst match?
The best is the 6-0 win over the Orlando Pirates 3 seasons ago, away from home.
Besides beating Al-Ahly last season, 5-0, I can’t believe the result yet, because it is the club of the century in Africa and it is impossible to lose with that result.
The worst game was the defeat of Bloemfontein Celtic in the league in 2015, 5-0. We played very badly and didn’t create any opportunities and it was a very strong result.
The best player trained with you?
There are so many minerals from Pellet, Gaston Sereno, and Percy Tao that they have amazingly developed with me.
Your favorite player in Africa?
There are many wonderful players who will do a lot for Sun Downs if they are included, such as Ali Maaloul and Ramadan Sobhi from Al-Ahly, Ashraf Bencharki and Sheikabala from Zamalek, and Yahya Gibran from Wydad.
Your favorite coach?
Pep Guardiola despite my resemblance in South Africa to Alex Ferguson, Manchester United manager, because I built the Sun Downs from scratch, as he did in England.
But I love Guardiola and Johan Cruyff.
A team that you are afraid to face?
It is not true because we play every season against big teams like Al-Ahly, Zamalek, Wydad, Mazembe and Esperance.
A dream that you want to fulfill?
Winning the Club World Cup I want to achieve something different, Mazembe and Raja reached the final, but they did not win the title, I dream of becoming the first coach to bring that title to Africa.
What do you most want to change in Africa?
Improving the quality of the stadiums When we play in the Nordic countries, we see the quality of the big stadiums, but Africa suffers from the quality of the stadiums in general.
Develop the competition system in the Champions League and better manage organizational and marketing matters to achieve greater benefits for all.
