Al-Ahly’s coach Pitso Musimani said his heart nearly stopped after the team’s player Hussein Al-Shahat squandered an opportunity to advance on Zamalek after he hit the ball off the left post.
Al-Ahly defeated Zamalek on Friday at the end of the century at the Cairo Stadium, with two goals per goal in the African Champions League, to crown the ninth title in their history.
Mosimane said on “Ontime Sports” channel after the game: “The word Malak tells me is very big. I have come here to crown that title.”
“We respect Zamalek and the Cairo Derby. It is not measured by who plays better, but who wins. All due respect to Shekabala and the Zamalek coach who did a good job and did not allow us to play easily.”
“Zamalek put pressure on us and told the players between the two halves that we are not playing well,” he added.
And the South African coach continued: “In the second half, I found that Zamalek was beginning to collapse, starting with the goalkeeper, so I told the players that they should press head-on, and my heart stopped due to the lack of opportunity to The goal”.
“I told the players that we should not let Zamalek control the pace of the game, we did what we had to do and we won,” said the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach.
Musimani sent several messages, saying: “I thank Al-Ahly President Mahmoud Al-Khatib for his confidence in and in the presence of an African coach with Al-Ahly, as well as the Sundowns President for giving me the opportunity to achieve my dream”.
He continued: “I am grateful to the Al-Ahly fans who treat me well, although I have not seen them in the stadium yet.”
