Mohsen Salih, head of Al-Ahly’s Planning Committee, noted that Pitso Mosimani’s story and biography convinced Al-Ahmar to appoint him as technical director of the team, and described the process of his appointment.
Saleh said at the press conference on the coach’s presentation: “Given what happened to the former coach, Rene Fyler, who inspired us and his actions suggested that he will not continue and will pave the way for his departure, we met with Mahmoud Al- Khatib, the general supervisor of the ball, asked us to move quickly to come up with alternative solutions shortly before CAF Champions League Semifinals.
“We had dozens of resumes in front of us,” he declared. “Our basic condition was to be ready to take on the team’s training immediately.”
He highlighted: “We had trainers from the Dutch, German, Czech, Argentine and Brazilian schools, and we also discussed local solutions.”
He revealed: “In the end, we narrowed the matter to 10 coaches who agreed to coach the team immediately, and we reached final agreements with some of them after five coaches, including Musimani, were counted.”
“What caught our attention is his understanding of Africa and his understanding of Al-Ahly. His biography indicates that he is a former international player, youth coach and assistant coach of world coaches like Carlos Alberto. He is an African coach with a European mind.” emphasized.
Then he said: “What is the problem with the Al-Ahly coach being African? Football does not know a nationality.”
“Al-Khatib found Musimani very welcome, and he took great care of Sundowns approval. We are lucky to have found a coach like Musimane with these terms and conditions. His story convinced us that he was the most appropriate,” he emphasized.
Musimani, 56, signed a two-year contract with Al-Ahly, and his mission begins with the Red Castle in a strong showdown against the Arab Contractors on Sunday in the Egyptian Premier League.
Their most important mission will be in the African Champions League, in which Al-Ahly play Wydad in the semi-finals.
Al-Ahly will be invited to Wydad on October 17, and after 6 days he will host the return, and if he crosses to the final, he will face Zamalek or Raja.
Mosimane won the Champions League in 2016 with his former club Mamelodi Sundowns.
He served as coach of the South African national team from 2010 to 2012.
