Algerian Riad Mehrez revealed to Manchester City that the agreement to transfer Mohamed Salah to Liverpool in the summer of 2017 stood in his way to join the ranks of the Reds.

Mehrez joined City in the summer of 2018 and earned him the Premier League title last season.

“Before I moved to Manchester City, Liverpool cared about me,” Mehrez said in a live feed on Instagram.

“But when Liverpool managed to annex Mohamed Salah, this interest ended.”

In the summer of 2017, Mehrez was a player in Leicester City, while the Egyptian international returned to the English Premier League after two and a half seasons in the Italian league, accompanied by Fiorentina and Roma.

The captain of the Algerian national team won the award for best African player in 2016, before Salah did in 2017 and 2018.

Senegalese won the award in 2019 after a fight with the duo.
