On Friday morning, Mohamed Atwi, a former player for the Al-Akhaa Al-Ahly, Aliyah and Al-Ansar team, was killed by a bullet that hit him last month.

The Al-Ansar club mourned its player in a statement in which it said: “With further pain and agony, the Al-Ansar Club management mourns one of their sons, the player Mohamed Atwi.”

And the statement continued, “We do not consider him a loss only for his family, but also for the club because of what the deceased represents in the heart of the fans who knew him as captain in the stadium, educated and gave a lot to the club” .

And he continued: “We extend our deepest condolences to his family, asking Almighty God to cover him with the breadth of his mercy, to enter his breadth and inspire his family with patience and consolation, we belong to God and to Him we will return “.

Atwi, 32, started his career at the Olympic Club Beirut in 2004, after which the club changed its name to Tripoli Sports, joining Lebanese Al-Ansar in 2008 and playing for 10 years there, during which time he won some titles such as the Lebanese Federation Cup on 3 occasions and the Super Cup once.

Atwi was hit by a stray bullet in the head on August 22, in the vicinity of the Cola area in Beirut.

Previous press reports said the cause of the shooting was unknown and that the player was transferred after he was injured to Al-Makassed Hospital.
