Jeljko Bovac, sporting director for Russian club Dynamo Moscow, and former assistant Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager, said he was the coach, not the last, for the 17 years they worked together.
“I did the coaching job, except for the press interviews,” said Povach, who left his post as a club assistant in Liverpool in April 2018, in an interview with Russian journalist Noble Arostamian in a YouTube video.
“As if I had been the coach for 17 years. I did all the work and tried to influence my team as much as possible to be successful, but I didn’t need to attract attention.”
“At the moment I don’t want to be a coach. When Barcelona ask me, I will think about it, otherwise I won’t.
“You say I’m here just for work and I’m waiting for a better opportunity, but if I knew about the offers that I turned down during my career, you wouldn’t say that. I won’t tell you the clubs that asked me.”
Neither Bovac nor Liverpool announced the reason for the split in April 2018.
Povach served as Klopp’s assistant in Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool.
Povach was Klopp’s teammates as a player in Mainz during the 1990s.
