Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), announced the launch of the Arab Cup for teams in December 2021 in Qatar, with the participation of Egypt.
Infantino revealed on the FIFA website that 22 Arab teams will participate in the tournament, which will take place from December 1 to 18, 2021.
Infantino was visiting the Lusail Stadium, which is scheduled to host the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the FIFA President said: “I hope the regional tournament in 2021 will bring together millions of soccer fans from across the Middle East and the world. Arab”.
He revealed: “We are pleased that the 22 teams from across the Arab world have agreed to participate in the Arab Cup, which will take place in the stadiums of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.”
The 22 participating teams are Egypt, Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
The 16 teams that will participate in the final stage will be divided into 4 groups and the first two will qualify for the quarterfinals, and 32 matches will be played in a period of 18 days.
Hamad bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of the Qatar Football Association, said: “Qatar looks forward to welcoming 22 Arab teams and their fans, and giving them the opportunity to be among the selected teams that will put to the test what Qatar has prepared to host. the world Cup”.
“Fans from across the region will be treated with the same global experience that awaits fans from around the world when they come to Qatar to participate in the 2022 FIFA World Cup,” he added.
“We welcome our friends from the Middle East and the Arab world to join in what will be an important milestone and a final test of our preparations, just one year away from hosting the first World Cup in the region,” he concluded .
