FilGoal | News | Evra: Ronaldo agreed to return to United … these were Ferguson’s plans before I was surprised

Patric Evra, the former Manchester United left-back, revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus had agreed to return to the Red Devils in 2013 after speaking with the club’s historic head coach Sir Alex Ferguson.

“The most difficult moment in my career with Manchester United was Ferguson’s retirement,” Evra said in his radio interview on United’s official website.

“Two weeks before his retirement, I remember a lot of rumors about his retirement in 2014, and I found him saying to me: Patrice, I am not going to retire, I will stay here for another 10 years.”

“Ferguson told me that I am 99% sure that I will beat Ronaldo and join Gareth Bale. I just need these two players to win the Champions League again,” Evra continued.

“To be honest, I called Ronaldo and asked him and he said he agreed with Ferguson’s request and that he would return to Manchester United,” he added.

“One day we came to training camp and we found a lot of cameras and I said, horrible, something went wrong. Maybe one of the players did something wrong and we are going to be in trouble.”

“But after we walked into the locker room, we were told that the coach would find us and it was never good news.”

“Ferguson apologized to everyone and many said they discussed my retirement before I originally spoke about him, but I will be retiring because my wife needs me,” he said.

“Ferguson was very apologetic to Robin Van Persie and Shinji Kagawa because they bought them just before the start of last season, and he specifically apologized to them,” he said.
