Coach Roberto García Barondo explained why Group G had been chosen.
García Barondo was chosen with Group G, with Sweden, the Czech Republic and a South American team that has not yet been decided.
“The answer will be difficult, because the draw is difficult,” said Barondo.
He added via Ontime Sports: “We have 32 high-level teams and it is difficult to choose a group, but we decided this group because we have information about the teams in them that we will face.”
He stressed: “But the election in general is difficult.”
He explained: “This group is the best for us because we know a lot of information about it.”
He continued: “I realize that there is a team that has not yet been decided and we have to wait for the qualifiers, but I think it will be the Chilean team and it is a good team.”
He continued: “I am happy with the level of the national team and I feel the improvement in the team. Egypt has been offering the best deals for many years.”
He stressed: “We also have to look beyond the championship. Our level is very good, and this is evident at the African Nations Championship.”
He continued: “We have to be ambitious. Now I work with 24 or 25 players and they all have the opportunity to be part of the participating team.”
He concluded: “I liked the idea of Hussein Zaki being my assistant on the national team, because he was a former team captain and he was a role model for a lot of young players.”
The championship will begin on January 14 and will end on January 31.
