Al-Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy is optimistic that South African Pitso Musimane will assume the team’s technical leadership and that Michel Yancon, coach of the shooting guards, will continue.

El-Shennawi held an interview on the club’s official website, during which he discussed how to prepare to face Wydad in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League.

He said: “A championship in Al-Ahly is not enough. We compete annually for 5 championships and we must crown them or win at least 4 of them.”

He continued: “The policy of the club and the ideology of the players is to win all the tournaments we compete in, and God willing, we will raise the cups of future tournaments.”

He continued: “I had a session with Musimane before the Al-Mokawloon game, and I see him focus on the team and achieve goals, and we are optimistic about him.”

Then he added: “The players are focused on the Wydad match, and God willing, we can go to the final. We know Wydad well and we will see them more and prepare for them, and we wish God success.”

And he added, “I hope to win the Champions League and participate in the World Cup.”

El-Shenawi also spoke about the continuation of Michel Yancon, the goalkeeper, who was on the coaching staff of former coach René Fyler.

And about him, he said: “The grassroots coach treats us well and it continues to be something positive because he has been with us for more than a year and knows how to treat us.”

He went on to talk about keeping a clean sheet for 24 games in the league, and said: “The record is a positive thing, and it was achieved thanks to the efforts of the players with me, and they have great merit and we help each other.”

He added: “This requires that I focus more on the next period and put more effort into the interest of the team.”

Al-Shenawi recalled his best memories with Al-Ahly and his role as team captain.

He revealed: “My first game with the team in 2008 was my best moment with Al-Ahly, and then I came home.”

He explained: “Returning to Al-Ahly has been my goal since I left the club, or to professionalize out of Egypt if I don’t return to Al-Ahly.”

He continued: “So when I received a professional offer at the same time as Al-Ahly’s offer, I decided to go back to Al-Ahly.”

And on his role as the team leader in the direction of the players, he explained: “Talking with the players aims to bring them back to their focus because sometimes we go through the Sarhan moments and everyone accepts it from me.”

He continued: “I have been partial against me in many games, but most of the games were a confrontation with Al-Saoura Youth, because we needed to win to cross the Champions groups and we won three goals.”

When asked who the best goalkeeper in the world was, El Shennawi replied: “Manuel Neuer.”

Regarding his best answer, he said: “Against Ismaily we won 2-0”.
