Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte responded to the accusations made against him for not winning any title with the team, despite being the highest salary among coaches in the Italian league.
Inter finished last season in second place in the league table after Juventus, and lost the European League final to Sevilla.
Conte told “Gazzetta dello Sport”: “We reached the goal when the opponents are not facing just 11 players, but a culture, identity, system, passion and a collective goal.”
“Titles and cups are achieved as a result. Without a winning culture, success cannot be achieved and a winning culture can only be achieved through hard work,” he added.
And when he compared his team to the achievements of José Mourinho and Helenio Herrera, he said: “The comparisons are wonderful and I feel responsible for achieving the same results.”
He added, “But let’s not confuse the different historical stages of the club, since those who took responsibility and did not make mistakes in decisive moments were used to pressure.”
The former Juventus coach said: “The fans have the right to dream, but we must realize that last season was exceptional and that we did something incredible thanks to the mistakes of others. We ended up one point behind Juventus because after winning the title fell a bit in the last games. “
“I am most proud of my progress against Napoli, who were supposed to be the contender for the title. I remember the game we lost to Juventus before closing. They showed that they still want success and we are working to be at the same level.”
Regarding his salary, he said: “What I earn is determined by what I have achieved in my career.”
He continued: “Even Liverpool, led by Klopp, won nothing in the first four years. It took a lot of time and significant contracts each season to build a team among the best in the world.”
“There has been an absolutely dominant team in Italy in recent years, and when that happens, they create a gap between themselves and each other,” he said.
