Cabinet spokesman Nader Saad denied reports on the possibility of establishing the General Assembly of the Egyptian Football Association to elect a new council, barring a government decision.
“My statements were misunderstood. I said that the council did not address the issue of the Football Association elections at today’s crisis meeting,” Saad said on Ontime Sports channel.
He added: “It was in the context of giving an example of the difference between the Football Association elections and the club elections, the fact that the matter is different with the general assemblies of clubs in which the number of voters it reaches 20,000 and 30 thousand and more. “
He continued: “If the prime minister wanted to grant any exceptions, this exception would have included the prime minister’s decision from the outset to allow, for example, small public assemblies and ban large ones, and so on.”
“There is no room for exceptions. Because opening the door to exceptions introduces you into another endless cycle of exceptions,” he said.
The Council of Ministers had issued a decision prohibiting the holding of general assemblies of various clubs and institutions for six months, in order to prevent the spread of the Corona virus.
FIFA has appointed a new committee to manage the Egyptian Football Association, headed by Ahmed Megahed, whose main task is to hold elections before the end of January.
