Algeria – Zimbabwe – African Cup of Nations Qualifiers

The Algerian national team consolidated their special unbeaten streak for 21 straight matches by beating Zimbabwe 3-1 in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Cameroon.

The Algerian team, since losing to Benin in the last qualifying rounds of the African Cup of Nations in 2018, won 15 and drew 5.

The African champions came first through Baghdad Bongah in the 31st minute.

Sofiane Feghouli added the second goal from leader Riyad Mahrez two minutes before the end of the first half.

In the 67th minute, Mahrez scored the third goal.

Eleven minutes before the game ended, Olympique Lyon striker Tino Cadiouri cut the score in favor of the visitors, the first goal in the current tie for Algeria.

The victory brought the Desert Warriors’ balance to 9 points up front, followed by Zimbabwe with 4 points, then Zambia, which beat Botswana 2-1, with a score of 3 points, and finally Botswana with one point.

Ghana x Sudan

In a Group C match, Ghana, thanks to Andre Ayew’s double, beat Sudan 2-0.

The victory for the Black Stars came through the son of Ghanaian legend Abidi Pele, who scored on 19 minutes of a direct free kick and at age 81 with a powerful shot from outside the area.

The match saw a controversial shot in the 37th minute by French coach Herbert Velod of Sudan, who objected to the referee for failing to award a penalty after his only player fell into the penalty area.

The referee ran towards the Sudanese coach and then pushed him to the ground, amid interference from security officers to break up the fight between them, in a shot that we are not used to seeing in stadiums.

Ghana’s victory raised their score to 9 points, while Sudan’s scoring stopped at 3 points in third place.

Cameroon x Mozambique

The Cameroon team swept their Mozambique counterpart 4-1 in Pool F to lead the pack.

Cameroon ended the first half with a 1-0 win thanks to Vincent Aboubacar’s goal in the 38th minute, and in the second half the same player scored the second goal in the 47th.

After 9 minutes, Andre Frank Zambo increased the lions’ lead with a third goal.

Camo Compiegne reduced the score for Mozambique in the 74th minute, 7 minutes into the substitute.

Clinton Nje closed the game with a fourth goal in the 80th minute, 16 minutes after he replaced Christian Basjoj.

A victory that lifted Cameroon to the top with 7 points, against Mozambique’s 4.
