Álvaro González, a Marseille player, defended himself after Neymar, the Paris Saint-Germain star, accused him of making racist statements during Sunday’s club game, which was decided by the first goal in the French League.
Neymar said that Gonzales called him “a monkey”, while the French channel TF1, according to his correspondent at the stadium, said that the latter had told the Brazilian “a dirty and silly monkey.”
Neymar received a red card, as well as 4 other players in a fiery match that saw several brawls at the Parc des Princes.
Gonzales wrote on Twitter: “There is no room for racism. My career is clean after working with colleagues and friends every day.”
There is no place for racism. Clean race and with many colleagues and friends on a daily basis. Sometimes you have to learn to lose and take it on the field. Incredible 3 points today. Allez l’OM 💙 Thank you family ⚪️ Ⓜ️ 🙌🏼 pic.twitter.com/4DuUT1PT0x
