British network “Sky Sports” revealed that several major European clubs, notably Liverpool and Manchester United, have entered into serious negotiations to establish a new tournament called the “European Premier League” with the support of the International Football Association (FIFA).

The network stated that more than 12 teams from the five major leagues (England – France – Germany – Italy – Spain) are in negotiations to become founding members of the competition, with funding amounting to 4.6 billion pounds.

Sky indicated that the tournament may include 16 or 18 teams from the strongest teams on the continent, which will be played on a roundtrip system throughout the season. The first place winners will then be determined to compete in knockout matches and then the competition champion will be determined, adding that the prizes are expected to be worth it. The winner’s finances are hundreds of millions of pounds each year.

The network emphasized that the final form of the tournament can be announced during the next period, so the tournament will start from 2022 at least.

It is unclear what UEFA’s position is in that competition, especially with the discussion of new proposals to change the shape of the European Champions League, which could herald a conflict between UEFA and FIFA.
