On Sunday, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed fired the Foreign Minister, the intelligence chief and the army commander.

This comes after days of intense military battles between the Ethiopian army and forces from the Tigray region, which the United Nations said had confiscated weapons for the army.

Yesterday, the Ethiopian Parliament approved the formation of an interim government for the region.

Ethiopian planes continued to bombard the Tigray region, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed promised more airstrikes as the conflict escalated, and there were reports of regional forces controlling important federal military sites and weapons, according to Reuters.

The government cut phone and internet connections in the area, and diplomats and humanitarian workers told Reuters that clashes were spreading in the northwestern part of the country on the border between Tigray and the Amhara region, which supports the federal government, and near the borders with Sudan and Eritrea.
