Erdogan: Good news, near Libya, and we will continue to support the government of reconciliation.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he would soon return “good news from Libya”, stressing that Turkey continues to support the internationally recognized government of reconciliation in Tripoli against retired Major General Khalifa Hifter.

Erdogan added that “the security of Libya, the security and prosperity of its people is the key to stability throughout the North African and Mediterranean region.”

The Turkish president said Ankara is determined to turn the region back into an “oasis of peace” by continuing to support Libya’s legitimate government.

In a televised speech after chairing a government meeting, Erdogan noted that the recent operation to defeat Haftar was “thanks to the support given to the internationally recognized legitimate government of Libya.”

“With each step Hifter takes, he faces resistance from the people even in the areas he occupies, so the efforts of the countries that provide him with weapons and unlimited financial support will not be enough to save him.”

“Based on this approach, we intend to transform the region once again into an oasis of peace by continuing to support the legitimate government of Libya,” he added.

Recently, government forces in Libya managed to liberate the entire northwestern coast of Libya, after the expulsion of the Haftar militants.

Government forces continue to pursue Hifter’s remains in several other areas, especially Tarhuna.
