Dynamo Zagreb coach Zoran Mamic has resigned as coach of the Croatian team after being sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison on charges of tax evasion.
The Supreme Court confirmed that Zoran Mamic’s sentence was reduced to four years and eight months from four years and 11 months, after charging him with tax evasion worth (1.4 million pounds) in addition to obtaining 13 million pounds for transfers of Dinamo players.
A decision was also issued to fire Zdravko, Mamic’s brother, a former CEO of Dynamo, as well as former tax official Milan Bernard.
The resignation of the Dinamo Zagreb coach came days before the game against Tottenham in the European League, where the two teams are scheduled to meet next Thursday in the round of 16.
Mamic said in his statement: “Although I do not feel guilty, I submitted my resignation as before and confirmed that I will do so if the verdict against me is confirmed … I wish the club the best.”
For its part, the Dynamo announced the appointment of former team player Damir Karznar as team coach, succeeding Mamic.
