Exciting statements that do not stop for the candidates for the presidency of the Spanish club Barcelona, in the electoral process scheduled for next January 24, the last of which was that of Agusti Benedetto, which has continued to cause controversy since he announced his candidacy.
Benedetto presented a surprising project, which will be one of the most discussed topics in the Catalan club’s presidential elections in the next period, since Benedetto’s success involves the demolition of the historic Camp Nou stadium.
“If I win the elections, we will build a new stadium. We have two options in this regard, the first is to demolish the Camp Nou and build it on the same site, a process that is expected to take three years,” said the Barcelona presidential candidate.
Benedetto continued: “The team will have to play at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona, which will require expanding its stands to accommodate the expected number of fans.”
While the second option is Benedetto’s plan to build a new stadium in a different location, “San Juan Despí”, and the Catalan candidate added that the vote will be on the matter in the first year of his term, if successful.
What adds to the controversy over this surprising project is its conflict with the historic “Espa Parsa” project, which includes developing the Camp Nou, and transforming it with its surroundings into the largest sports complex in the world. “This will not be done if I am successful,” Benedetto clearly said.
The statement on Barcelona’s new stadium is not the first of its kind controversial for Benedetto, as the same candidate doubted the survival of Argentine legend Lionel Messi in the team’s ranks, saying that Barcelona could not stand in the way. way of the French club Paris Saint-Germain if he wanted to sign Messi.
The “Camp Nou” stadium was inaugurated in 1957 and took three years to build, and was renovated three times, the last in 2018. It is one of the largest stadiums of the year, with an official capacity of 99,354 spectators.
