Britain’s BP announced today, Monday, that it has started producing gas from its latest offshore discovery in Egypt, in partnership with the Egyptian Natural Gas Exploitation Company (EGAS), which is the Katameya field, which is located in the North Damietta offshore concession area.
The company said in a statement that this field has been developed through the Pharaonic Joint Stock Company (EGAS / BP), which is expected to produce 50 million cubic feet of gas per day from a well that has been linked to subsea infrastructure. .
“BP’s assets and its existing marine infrastructure contributed to the economic and effective development of the Katameya field, which represents a good example of how the development of hydrocarbon resources is compatible with global economic changes, and this is a key part of the BP’s development strategy, “said Karim Alaa, Regional Director for North Africa. .

The Kattameya field was discovered in 2017 and the Kattameya field is located about 45 km west of the Habi platform at a depth of 108 meters, which is part of the North Damietta marine concession and was connected through a 50 km pipeline. which extends to the Torte and Habi fields, and is controlled through The facilities are underwater through a 50 km link, according to the statement.
Notably, BP owns 100% of the North Damietta concession in the eastern Nile Delta, noting that the gas produced in this field is pumped into the national gas network.
