Sources told Al-Jazeera Mubasher that Egyptian security forces launched a campaign of arrests in the Arab al-Ma’mal area in Suez governorate, following a position against President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Friday.

On Friday night, Egyptian media and opposition figures distributed video clips they said were of a demonstration in the city of Suez, east of Cairo.

The clips, reported by the media and social media platforms, showed a gathering of dozens of citizens in the Arab area of al-Ma’mal in Suez, after prayers on Friday.

The protesters chanted slogans against the regime of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, such as: “We will not sleep, we will not rest … fall, Abdel Fattah will fall.” In reference to the calls to demonstrate on this date by Muhammad Ali.

In a few hours, the hashtags (#bina_benkm_day 20) and (# Suez) the Egyptian trend on Twitter with the largest interactions.

The arrest campaign took place “in the context of the demonstrations that took place after Friday prayers, which promised Al-Sisi to depart on September 20 and overthrow the regime.”

The activists considered that “the demonstrations that took place in Suez on Friday, despite their limitations, caused great confusion in Cairo.”

Hours before Friday, a state of alert and security alert was imposed in Egypt, two days before possible demonstrations called by artist and contractor Mohamed Ali, in protest of economic conditions that culminated in a government campaign to demolish built properties. without licenses.

From his residence in Spain, he called on the Egyptian people to come out in demonstrations on September 20, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the demonstrations he called at the same time last year.

In previous statements, he said that he is betting on the people’s response to the demonstrations this year, due to several crises, among which the economic situation stands out, and the failure of Egyptian diplomacy in the negotiations of the Renaissance Dam, in addition to the law of reconciliation in building violations.

The authorities generally do not comment on these calls for protests, but Sisi used to hint at them on several occasions, highlighting the strength of the state and its security services.

Regime loyalists believe that the situation in the country is stable in light of the relative improvement in the economy, considering that opponents abroad do not represent the Egyptian people.
