The South African club Sundowns announced the closing of negotiations with Al-Ahly regarding the Uruguayan player Gaston Sereno.
Sereno was linked to a change to Al-Ahly during the last summer transfer period, but material requests from the South African club hampered the deal.
The 29-year-old re-entered Al-Ahly’s accounts again during the Mercato’s upcoming winter period, but according to the South African club’s statement, matters between the two parties are far from the transfer fee.
Sundowns issued an official statement on its website about the deal, as follows: “Mamelodi Sundowns announces the end of negotiations with Al-Ahly regarding the Gaston Sereno deal, because the clubs are far from each other on the player transfer fee “.
The statement added: “The good relations between Al-Ahly Club President Mahmoud Al-Khatib and Mamelodi Sundowns President Patrice Mutsibi will continue, but it makes no sense or purpose to continue discussions on Gaston. Sereno.”
He continued, “Sundowns will continue to release its players to European, African and other countries, as it has already done, but the transfer fees must be appropriate because Sundowns is paying large sums of money to acquire the players.”
“Serino must now focus on his future at the club,” he said.
